When you mention Sporting CP, or Sporting Lisbon to most British people, they will primarily think of Cristiano Ronaldo. Who can blame them? The best (or one of the best depending on how you look at things!) player in the World made his name at Sporting before his move to Manchester United. They were also the starting place for legend Luis Figo.
Apart from that, Sporting are the third most successful team in Portuguese football behind Porto and Benfica. They’ve won 44 titles in Portuguese domestic competitions and one International title and were one of three founding members of the Portuguese Primeira Liga in 1933.
Of the current crop, names you may have heard of are keeper Rui Patricio, Marcos Rojo, Diego Capel and for English readers Eric Dier. Dier, born in Cheltenham, is blossoming into a good defender and spent a brief spell on loan at Everton. They’ve also just signed Scottish youngster Ryan Gauld from Dundee United. Their focus on youth is admirable.
I’ve wanted a Sporting shirt for a while, I just love the iconic green and white stripes that they use and this shirt especially is very nice. It is the usual Sporting design but with a lovely collar to top it off. After seeing the Sporting kits for next season made by Macron I will most definitely be looking to purchase one if not both of their shirts!
