Never heard of Raetia? I don’t suppose I can blame you too much for that. Unless you lived in the Roman Empire (if you did, please get in touch as I think you may have broken science), you’re probably discovering it for the first time.

Raetia was a province of the Roman Empire named after the Raeti people and became a part of the Empire in 15 BC after being annexed. Modern day Raetia is in Switzerland and on the border with Germany. Anyway, less of the history and more of the football before I bore you to tears.

The Raetia football team is relatively new having made their debut in 2011 – a 6-1 defeat to the Chagos Islands. They’ve competed in two main competitions; the 2012 VIVA World Cup and last year’s Tynwald Hill Tournament.

They finished in eighth in Kurdistan, beating Tamil Eelam after defeats to Zanzibar and Western Sahara. The NF Board members then beat Monaco and drew with Saugeais before the Tynwald on the Isle of Man.

They squeaked past Alderney before a loss to Tamil Eelam and are set to face Sealand in their next game on August 9 in Chur, Switzerland. It’ll be interesting to see if The Grisons can continue their improvement on the international stage.

The shirt is pretty plain but in my opinion it works well with the colours in question. I like the different coloured sleeves and it’s a very classy design which works for Raetia. I also like their away shirt which is blue and may find itself into the collection at some stage.

I don’t like to name drop but I’d like to extend a big thank you to Yacine Azzouz at the Raetia FA who helped me out with the shirt and being very welcoming in the process!
