The second non-FIFA shirt on this blog and it’s an obscure one, even for non-FIFA!
Cascadia haven’t actually played a game yet but have joined the NF Board in preparation. The team will represent the region which consists of the American states of Washington and Oregon and the Canadian province of British Columbia.
There is an actual Cascadia Independence Movement but the team has been set up purely for cultural and sporting reasons. There’s plenty of players in the area who play for the likes of Portland Timbers, Seattle Sounders and Vancouver Whitecaps in the MLS so they could put together a pretty strong squad.
The plan is for Cascadia to compete in the 2016 VIVA World Cup but whether that tournament will actually go ahead is anybody’s guess. According to Wikipedia, Quebec, Occitania, Raetia and Skåneland have all shown interest in a friendly with the Cascadia side with Quebec making sense for obvious geographical reasons.
The shirt itself is very nice and showcases the three colours of the Cascadia flag. I obtained it directly from the Cascadia Football Association and it arrived in less than a week – very impressive!
I’ll keep a keen eye on Cascadia and their progress and wish them the best of luck!
